Describe the setting- include location, time period, and socioeconomic characteristic.

This story takes place in London. It is Autumn and its the year 1890. Dr. Watson walks into Holmes' house to find him talking to a very red-headed man. The man's name is Mr. Jabez Wilson. He came to Holmes with a problem, he said that he had found an add in the paper stating that there was a job opening for a red-headed man, who had to be a certain age, and had to have very blazing red hair. He tells Holmes about traveling to the location of the interview and that the guy had chose him to fill the office. He copied dictionaries, and only worked for about Four hours daily. After about a month of working there for about a month he got a note on the door saying that the business was closed. he asked the guy who gave him the job but he said he didnt kbow what Jabez was talking about. He came to Holmes asking for him to solve the case. They set up a plan to hide out in a room that has three-hundred thousand dollars in it. They had been waiting for awhile when the door of the room opened a crack and a guys hand poked through. then the guy walked in and Holmes flashed the light on and grabbed the guy and he also had an accomplice with him. They turned the lights on and it was Jabez and his assistant that works with him at his small business. Jabez's assistant was really a wanted criminal, and they had both been plotting to steal the money and had dug a tunnel underground to the room where the money was as an escape route. Jabez jumped down it, and was later caught later at his house (thats where the tunnel led to).

  1. This is one of the more famous Sherlock Holmes stories. I think most of the stories have this same setting. It was written in present day at the time, but that was a long time ago.
