Story #7
This next story is called, "The Adventure of the Speckled Band." A young woman named Helen Stoner concults with Holmes about the suspicious death of her sister, Julia. They think it is her stepfather, because when their mom died the houses went up in price but if either of the daughters get married the price drops significantly, they were both going to het married; but now one is dead leaving only one daughter getting married. The stepfather had sent a very poisoness snake to Julia's room which had killed her and now he is trying to send it after her sister. Holmes attacks the snake and it takes shelter in an air duct which is connected to the stepfather's room and it bites him, he dies within seconds.
Story #6
Dr. Watson was called upon by a female friend. She said that her husband had been missing for several days and that he was an opium addict, she was sure that he was in a dangerous drug binge in East End opium den. Mr. Neville St. Clair, his wife had seen him standing in the window of a second floor of the opium den, but when she noticed him he withdrew from the window immediately. In the room a beggar is found with his coat and several pounds of pennies. The beggar is arrested. Then several days later his wife receives a letter in his handwriting, which leads Holmes back to the prison with a washing sponge. He washes the filth off the beggars face and it happens to be Mr. Neville St. Clair. He was living a double life to pay off debts from the earnings he made as a beggar.
Story #5
This story is called, "The Five Orange Pips." A guy comes to Holmes with a strange story. He said his uncle Elias came back to England to live after being a planter in Florida for many years. He wasn't married so he allowed his nephew to stay with him. His nephew could go anywhere in the house except one locked room. a second thingwas he received a letter entitled k.k.k with 5 orange pips inside it, which are seeds. Strange things started happening, he burned all of his papers that were in his locked room and made a will leaving his house to his nephew and started drinking. On May 2, 1883 he was found dead in his garden pool. Holmes sends 5 orange pips to k.k.k members and sends out an arrest warrant for them, and to find their boat called, "the lone star." the murderers were not caught.
Story #4
This story is called, "The Boscombe Valley Mystery." Holmes is asked by a man to investigate a death of a man named Charles McCarthy. A detective from that area is already on the case and things he has it already solved and figured out, and that the murderer is the guys son, James. Holmes does not believe and thinks that the facts don't fit. Holmes says that it would be impossible for the son to kill his father due to the angle of the wound and where his son was standing. Holmes figures out it was a guy named Old Turner, but does not arrest him because he says that he killed McCarthy because he was trying to get his son to marry his daughter so they could take his money. The court rules that it wasn't James and Old Turner dies 7 months later of an illness.
